Bosch Benvenuto B20 Automatic Espresso Machine

You're probably more familiar with Bosch as the makers of the wildly popular Tassimo BrewBot coffee and espresso centers, but many people are surprised that they make a few traditional espresso machines as well. Last week a friend of mine asked me about the Bosch Benvenuto B20 Automatic Espresso Machine and you might be a little surprised what I told them!

Let's Take A Look At The Machine

Bosch Benvenuto B20This is a 1,300 watt powerhouse machine that generates 15 bars of pump powered pressure. It has a water tank that will hold 8 and 3/4 cups of water so that you won't have to fill it up every time you want a shot of espresso, and a steam wand frother so that you can enjoy your favorite cappuccino and latte drinks.

Like all automatics, it comes with a built in bean grinder so that you don't even have to bother with grinding your coffee beans. And it even comes with a cup warming plate.

Bosch only manufactures a couple of true espresso machines (besides their brewbots). Normally when I come across a company that only produces a few machines, I recommend that you stay away from them. Why? Because I want a company with lots of experience, not one that throws out a product seemingly as a byproduct of something else they're doing.

But I may change my mind when it comes to the Benvenuto B20. If you're looking for a fully automatic machine, the choices aren't very big when it comes to a thousand dollar machine. Really good automatics can cost anywhere from $1,500 up to $5,000 or more.

But the B-20 costs only around a thousand bucks and has good customer reviews. Which might just make it a slightly cheaper automatic entry machine for many people. So I'm willing to give it a chance.

What Are Other People Saying About It?

Most of the time, higher priced machines don't have a lot of reviews, and the B-20 is no exception. But I did manage to find 10 reviews at Amazon and they were positive. Specifically, six were 5-star, one was 3-star, one was 2-star, and two were 1-star.

That's a solid 3 1/2 out of 5 stars on average. The two people that gave out 1-star reviews generally had the same problems that many people have with high end espresso machines. There's always a couple of people who can't figure them out or who get faulty machines right off the bat.

The people who gave the machine 5-star reviews really seemed to like their machines. One reviewer said they've made 25 cups of espresso a day for 3 years without a single problem! Another person used theirs for 7 years. That's a huge accomplishment in an industry where normal wear and tear destroys a machine within a couple of years usually.

What's The Bottom Line?

The Bosch Benvenuto B20 Automatic Espresso Machine seems to be a great entry level automatic machine for the money. You'll be hard pressed to find a machine for less than a thousand dollars that has the same kind of reviews that the B-20 has. All in all I recommend you take a chance on it.
